The Leaders of Gracious Cross Reformed Church
Gustavo Barros- Teaching Elder
Gustavo (Guga) C. de Barros is the teaching-elder at GCRC. He was born and raised in Campinas – Sao Paulo, Brazil. As a Brazilian he is a big fan of the true futebol and of a strong cup of coffee! He went to Portland, OR, in 2002 to study theology, and it was there that he met his wife Rachel. In 2007 Guga, Rachel, and Isabella (their oldest daughter) went to Brazil where he planted and pastored a church. In 2013 he returned to the USA, Salem, OR, in order to receive further theological education. Guga and Brian Ray planted GCRC in 2013. He has his Masters of Theological Studies and is pursuing his M.Div. through Reformed Baptist Seminary. Guga and Rachel have four children (Isabella, Emily, Lilliana, and Stephan).
Brian Ray- Elder
Brian D. Ray is an elder at GCRC. Raised in Oregon, his academic degrees reflect the story of his lifelong fondness of God’s creation, animals. His amazing wife, Betsy, was a grand change in his life after they met in Portland, moved around a bit, and then came back to Oregon in the late 1970s. The Lord has blessed them with eight children and so far nine born grandchildren. Some of his favorite things are to be with Betsy, watch his swirling and vivacious children and grandchildren at parties, study and talk with his church family, poke around his and Betsy’s small farm, and hunt deer, elk, bear, and cougar. Brian is known internationally for his research on homeschooling and founding the National Home Education Research Institute. His B.S. in biology is from the University of Puget Sound, his M.S. in zoology is from Ohio University, and his Ph.D. in science education is from Oregon State University.
